A change of pace

I have decided at this point to slightly alter my aim and direction in my posts, they will not become permanent in this fashion, but I feel I should be a little more helpful instead of degrading constantly, even though it is fun.

These "heroes" at hand need to be brought into the light about what it is they do and ways to improve upon it. In this case I feel the need to bring up the subject of patrols. In a patrol there should be objective and purpose, not just a walk around a neighborhood. Focus and direction are needed when doing something effective on patrol. Otherwise you are just taking a stroll around the park. There is a lot that can be done in conjunction with a patrol to create true impact and not just searching for the criminal element.

Look into the crime in your cities, find high crime areas, and plan the sections of your patrol nightly. Know what you are doing, know where you are going, plan a route. Spotcrime.com is a good site to use in your community to find high crime and recent criminal activity, as well as the severity of it.

Stop wearing a mask all the time and stop wearing a bright costume. It draws attention to you and makes it a hell of a lot harder to track someone if you are wearing a bright or strange mask, and an attention grabbing costume. You are unable to blend in and be a part of the crowd if you cannot even walk down the street without people looking at you. Doing something more than just walking will teach you better investigative techniques and teach you what types of things to look out for when it comes to crime. What do drug dealers tend to wear? What do they act like? How do you gather evidence correctly? How do you set up an undercover mission? All of these factors are important if you want to act like police, but not really be police. Let's face it, walking around the streets is not enough. There needs to be direction to it, a focus of intent. Like Tiny Terror said removing the mask does not remove the purpose. So if you think that just because you put a mask on it makes you different, it makes you better, then you are wrong, dead wrong. You should always have the mentality to be ready to help, to want to help. The mask and costume and gear does not make you a "hero", your actions and mentality do.

Read a fucking book. There are thousands of resources out there to teach you and help you learn how to investigate, how to engage the criminal element, from criminology, to private investigation, first-aid, emt courses, to how to conduct an interview with a suspect, or gathering evidence. There is much to be learned, just knowing martial arts and having a baton and a flash light are not enough to do the most good. You have to always learn more and more, hone your skill, improve on it, adapt it, and especially learn to use it. All the knowledge in the world means nothing if you do not apply it. That is all i have time for right now, but more to come.

  1. Virus,

One worries that a more prudent course of action when finding a crime scene, is NOT to begin your investigation, for in doing so, you contaminate evidence and make it useless for use in prosecution. Real Life Superheroes are not trained, and do not have the technical, monetary, and legal resources of Law Enforcement.

Charting a new direction? Excellent! Villainy needs to expand our horizons, as we have so easily mastered clubbing the baby seals of goodness.

    Victory for Villainy!

  3. Beginning an investigation does not mean necessarily that you should engage anyone, but simply, if you are going to pursue something in that degree, be educated, know what to do, know what you are getting yourself into. To plainly go out and think you know how to analyze crime and to interpret the meanings in a persons actions and a persons words does not do anything, my point is to say that education is the first key, to know what you are doing, not just think you do. Use what you learn in the right ways.

Tracking a person can simply mean following them down the street, but I do not encourage engaging them. Go and call the cops if you do see something that needs to be addressed. Learn what identifies them, learn what makes them tick. Batman didn't get to where he was because he walked the streets. He spent years learning and honing his craft, and even then he learned that he knew nothing. Time is what matters, if you want to make a difference, you have to know how.

Malvado, the drug dealers reference was simply an example, I do not know if any are directly targeting drug dealers or not, but if they are, god help them.

Lord Malignance, I am not saying that they should just go in and take evidence, again, they need to learn the proper ways first if they expect to gather evidence, because if they are not careful, something as basic as a fingerprint could implicate them as well.

  4. Accountability and improvement is what we are trying to do. This is good advice, if maybe still a little harsh. But what can you expect from such villainous scum as you? (0-)
